IMCA Training Establishment Seminar 2007
Over seventy delegates, representing a combination of training establishments, personnel agencies and marine contractors, gathered in Aberdeen on 27 February 2007 for this IMCA event, which aimed to facilitate better communication between these key parties on current training needs and delivery.
The day began with a series of presentations covering the workshop objectives, existing training programmes, contractors' training needs and the viewpoints of training providers, before splitting into workshops addressing issues specific to each industry sector.
As well as covering the specific training needs for various roles, issues highlighted included how trainees can be better integrated into the existing workforce, including the need for dialogue with oil company clients, supervision and training records, plus methods of training delivery and ensuring ongoing communication so that training providers are kept up-to-date with industry developments and guidance.
Feedback from the event was very positive, with everyone going away with something to think about and a number of ideas to be taken forward by IMCA's committees and workgroups.
Summary notes, including the presentations in full and reports on the discussions, have been distributed to delegates and other members, with copies available to members on request.
