Competence Assurance & Assessment
Focusing on workplace assessment, where skills and behaviour are considered, and written from an international perspective, IMCA's competence framework enables the demonstration of competence in safety-critical positions that is so vital for the offshore industry.
There has been an increasing global emphasis on the importance of using competent personnel - something that is set to continue despite the significant upturn and subsequent demand for personnel experienced in the industry over recent years. Contractors are called upon by clients, regulators and others to demonstrate that the individuals working for them, particularly in safety-critical roles, are competent.
IMCA, working through and in consultation with its members, has developed an extensive framework of guidance that its members can use to establish or enhance their own in-house schemes, with recognised industry critieria and templates for assessment and record keeping.
The following pages provide an overview of the competence framework, with additional information relevant to each technical sector linked at the bottom of this page.
The IMCA framework includes a substantial amount of documentation - set out in a straightforward manner for over 50 positions, with additional guidance for freelance personnel and on assessor training with a variety of logbooks and competence records also available. Freelance and agency personnel form an important part of the offshore workforce. To help such individuals develop a portfolio of work records and competence assessments that can be transferred from company to company. Click here for more details to access our free information pack downloads.
IMCA has held a number of workshops on the subject of personnel competence, both helping to shape the development of its guidance framework and subsequently addressing issues relating to implementation and more general competence topics. More details are available on our Competence & Training events pages.
In response to enquiries from members, individuals and third parties, IMCA has created and continues to develop a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and answers. Click here to see if your question's already been answered.
