Recruitment and Careers
Those of us already within the industry know just how absorbing, exciting, rewarding, involving and, at times, challenging it can be. IMCA is spreading the word to the next generation of recruits.
Careers in offshore, marine and underwater engineering provide constantly evolving opportunities not only in every engineering discipline, but also in projects, operations and unique specialisations such as ROVs and dynamic positioning.
At a time when the industry is expanding rapidly with many new offshore construction vessels, drilling rigs, ROVs and diving systems entering service, IMCA is highly active in promoting and supporting recruitment, career development, gaining competence and skills retention on behalf of its members.
A buoyant industry needs a sufficient supply of skilled people and we see our role here in two main dimensions:
- Helping individuals to identify their career options and connecting them with potential employers
- Supporting contractors by relaying the industry's needs in terms of skills and qualifications to the public, training establishments and regulators.
In practical terms, this means promoting the industry to potential recruits and agencies as an exciting career choice involving challenge, cutting-edge technology and travel. Opportunities for new entrants, industry returners and those with transferable skills are widely publicised, with an emphasis on career progression and quality of training.
As well as taking part in careers forums and contributing to industry-related articles in magazines and newspapers, we also provide universities and training establishments with guidance to help with the development of syllabi.
