December 2004- Registration Opens for 2005 IMCA Safety Seminar
Elements for Safety: Completing the Health and Safety Jigsaw? is IMCA's third major seminar dedicated to onshore and offshore personnel responsible for safety. Taking place on 3-4 February 2005 at the Ajax Amsterdam Arena, the member-only event aims to build on the success of previous seminars at Old Trafford (Manchester) and St James' Park (Newcastle) and focuses on the various elements which together can help ensure a safe offshore working environment. Members should register now and spread the word to their colleagues. - New Guidance Addresses Wire Rope Maintenance

To this end, a broad-based IMCA workgroup has, together with wire rope manufacturers, developed guidance on the inspection, testing, storage, transport, maintenance and general care of wire ropes not already covered by industry guidance. - IMCA Annual Seminar 2004 a Great Success
Over 170 delegates gathered at the Regent Hotel in Singapore on 2-3 December for the first annual seminar to be jointly organised by all four of the Association's technical divisions - Marine (building on over a decade of previous successful events), Diving, Offshore Survey and Remote Systems & ROV. The CD containing the full set of presentations and proceedings is currently being prepared and a full report will appear on this site shortly.
November 2004- Latest Pocket Card Addresses Drug and Alcohol Misuse
Following on from guidance documents covering drug and alcohol policies (The Collection of Samples (IMCA SEL 008, Apr 2003) and Breath Testing (IMCA SEL 011, Feb 2004)), IMCA's latest pocket safety card helps bring awareness of the real effects of drug and alcohol misuse to hand for offshore personnel. - Review of Artemis Mk V Published
Extending and updating its range of technical reviews, IMCA has published a review of the Artemis Mk V positioning system, setting out details of its principles of operation, with manufacturer's instructional material and a summary of operational experience obtained both from the manufacturer and IMCA members. The format is similar to that used recently for reviews of the latest laser positioning systems to allow for comparison. - From the President - November 2004
IMCA has matured into a global trade association for all marine contracting activities, the breadth of its agenda has had to expand to address political and commercial concerns.
Updating members on work on contracting principles, plus continuing work on a world-wide diver training initiative and supporting the expanding work programme. - Updated Guidance on Diving in Contaminated Waters
IMCA's guidance on the various safety aspects to be considered when planning diving operations in potentially contaminated locations and ways of addressing them has been fully reviewed, expanded and updated.

There has never been a more important time for IMCA. The oil and gas industry needs strong marine contractors and the industry needs IMCA as its common and public voice. The underlying fundamentals are sound, the expertise is there and it's up to us to get the message across and create our own future.

Having grown to reflect the Association's expanding membership and work programme and with redevelopment work pending at its former home, the IMCA secretariat has moved into new premises at 5 Lower Belgrave Street in central London. The new offices bring all London staff together and include a dedicated boardroom, teleconferencing system and additional office space which, when not used by IMCA committees and workgroups, are available for use by members wishing to meet in London.

IMCA's role and objectives have been summarised in a new document - The IMCA Message, which sets out succinctly IMCA's interests, interfaces, objectives, means to deliver those objectives and members' undertakings. - New Guidance on Selection of Vessels of Opportunity
IMCA, led by members active in the Asia-Pacific region, has developed new guidance to assist both contractors and their clients when selecting vessels of opportunity from which diving operations are to be carried out. Nine chapters provide both generic guidance on assessing the general suitability of such vessels together with an indication of project-specific factors to be considered. - From the President - September 2004
With the oil price hitting an all-time high (five times higher than in 1999) and client companies announcing record profits for the second half of the year, we should all be busy ... Yet, nothing is proving further from reality as offshore exploration and new oilfield development work continue to bump along at very low levels ... in addition to the often onerous contract terms and conditions for marine contractors.

An exciting programme - developed jointly for the first time by all four IMCA technical divisions (Marine, Diving, Offshore Survey and Remote Systems & ROV) has been published. The seminar title - Marine Contracting: from Deepwater Construction Vessels to Offshore Diving - reflects the diverse range of operations carried out within the marine contracting industry, with common interest running thorugh each included theme. The headline issue for the offshore contracting industry this quarter has continued to be the imbalance of risk and liability currently assigned between contractors and clients, not least for those companies now undertaking work in deepwater offshore environments.
IMCA providing a forum for constructive dialogue on various issue with operators, regulators and other bodies.
April 2004- More pocket safety cards now available
Four more pocket cards - Toolbox Talks, Lifting Operations, Lifting Equipment and Working at Height - have been distributed to members, with bulk sets available for purchase and the print files available for download, enabling incorporation of company logos and references.
March 2004- Latest DP Incident Report Now Available
The fourteenth annual report on station keeping incidents involving dynamically positioned vessels has now been published, covering 64 incidents which during in 2002. Work has commenced on the next volume and vessel operators are encouraged to submit their incident reports to IMCA as soon as possible. The wealth of data now held forms a major resource for helping the industry to prevent repeat incidents. The summary information gained from the annual analysis also provides useful input to assist the Marine Division in developing a technical work programme to address the technical issues facing specialist vessel operators. - 2004 annual seminar details announced

February 2004- Breath Testing Guidance Published
The second IMCA guidance document relating to drug and alcohol policies is now available, addressing the complicated issues and sensitivities associated with testing and outlining the procedures required for and breath testing, plus summaries of other types of test. - Updated Guide to DP-Related Documentation for DP Vessels
IMCA has updated its publication for owners and operators of DP vessels on a common approach to the documentation which ought to be carried on board DP vessels, through guidance and a checklist format. - IMCA seeks Technical Professional

January 2004- First IMCA Pocket Safety Cards Now Available
IMCA has been developing a series of pocket safety cards, which aim to make key safety messages readily available for offshore personnel. The first two cards, entitled 'Manual handling safety guide' and 'Preventing slips and trips', have been distributed to members and are available for purchase. The print files are also available to members for customisation with company logos, names and references. A number of other cards are being progressed - more details soon. - Promotional CD now available
A CD containing an extensive PowerPoint presentation and various factsheets has been made available by IMCA. Together the materials provide a wealth of information and are suitable for a variety of audiences, including by those unfamiliar with the Association to help them find out more and by the secretariat, committee members and others when giving presentations to third parties on IMCA's role, achievements and current activities. - IMCA objectives for 2004 published
IMCA's technical work programme for 2004 has been agreed by the Overall Management Committee, setting out the projects to be undertaken by the core activities and technical divisions over the coming year. Also published on this website are the strategic objectives enshrined in the revised IMCA Constitution, which was adopted in December 2003. - The Diving Supervisor's Manual - CD version produced
In response to members ad third parties, in particular diving supervisors wishing to have a compact version suitable for carrying offshore, IMCA has now produced a CD containing its popular Diving Supervisor's Manual. As with the printed version, IMCA-certified supervisors can benefit from the reduced pricing enjoyed by member companies.
