Timeline
IMCA has a long and proud history, with many notable achievements. Many of these can be seen from the guidance produced over a number of years which is listed elsewhere on this site. Some key dates are listed below.
- 1972 - AODC (the Association of Offshore Diving Contractors) founded
- 1990 - DPVOA (the Dynamically Positioned Vessel Owners Association) founded
- 1990 - AODC Middle East Section founded
- 1995 - AODC and DPVOA merged to form IMCA
- 1997 - Combined secretariat office established
- 1997 - Offshore Survey Division formed
- 1997 - Original ROV code of practice published
- 1998 - IMCA International Code of Practice for Offshore Diving published
- 1999 - Observer status granted at the International Maritime Organization (IMO)
- 1999 - Competence scheme framework launched
- 1999 - IMCA Asia-Pacific Section founded
- 2000 - UK HSE, having withdrawn from approval recognises world-wide IMCA scheme for diver medic training
- 2000 - Middle East Section extended to include India
- 2002 - Americas Deepwater Section founded
- 2003 - Europe & Africa Section founded
Presidents
IMCA has benefited (and continues to do so) from the leadership provided by key figures in the marine contracting sector who have served as its President, also chairing its Overall Management Committee and the IMCA Council, which comprises senior figures from the leading 'International Contractor' members of the Association and provides political direction and support. Presidents since IMCA's formation (through the merger of AODC and DPVOA) in 1995 are listed below.

Secretariat
For over a quarter of a century the Association and its predecessors has had a secretariat to provide administrative support and co-ordination for IMCA's committee-based work programme. In 1997 a combined secretariat was formed in London, UK, to provide full-time support and has subsequently expanded in line with membership and a wider work programme. Leading secretariat figures are listed below.
