Safety, Environment & Legislation (SEL)

SEL Events

As a core activity dealing with issues relevant to all IMCA members, the world-wide SEL committee has held a number of events on various topics and continues to address new areas consistent with its ongoing work programme.

Recent events have also seen collaboration with the Marine Division and the Europe & Africa Section with events as far apart as Houston and Paris. See below for details on the various areas covered.

Safety-Focused Events

IMCA has held a number of safety-focused seminars and workshops, which have built into major events. Select from the links below for more information.

Security Seminar

IMCA's new Europe & Africa Section, in conjunction with the SEL Core Committee, held a members-only seminar on 25 September 2003 in Paris to raise awareness of and discuss security and health management issues when working offshore West Africa. Addressing a major area of concern for contractors working in the area, the section is including such matters as a priority item in its work programme. The seminar included presentations from experts working in the field and discussion sessions on a variety of key topics. Click here for more details.

Environmental Workshops

In recent years IMCA has held two seminars dedicated to environmental issues, in particular to moves by operator clients and IMCA's own contractor members to obtain certification under international codes and standards. As always, these events have involved independent experts in the field, experienced speakers from member companies who have been heavily involved in such activities and representatives of both clients and regulators, enabling informed and wide discussions to take place and thereby allowing each viewpoint to be represented and better understood by the others. Other Events

IMCA's SEL Committee held a workshop in 2002 entitled "Setting Performance Measures", covering both (leading and lagging) health & safety and environmental performance indicators. Contractor members know only too well the demands being placed on them to show that their operations are safe and efficient and are well aware of the limitations of some of the frequently used measures. The event proved an important step in the development of the committee's work on indicators of health & safety and environmental performance, subsequently published in 2003 and 2004 respectively, providing an excellent opportunity for members to come together and discuss this important topic, with some extremely constructive debate and dialogue taking place. A set of summary proceedings is available to members on request.
