Event Report
Safety Where it Counts: At the Sharp End 9-10 February 2005, Murrayfield stadium, Edinburgh, UK
The 2007 IMCA safety seminar - the fifth such annual event - took place at Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium on 1-2 February, attracting over 130 delegates. Once again, the event successfully brought together both onshore and offshore management responsible for safety and those active in the on-site workforce to discuss how the industry can further improve offshore safety and avoid incidents, providing a unique opportunity for dialogue and learning from each other at all levels.
The seminars always feature something a little out of the ordinary and this year was no exception, as delegates were spellbound by magic tricks and other interjections, reinforcing the safety messages in new and interesting ways.
A varied two-day programme featured presentations on many safety-related subjects, including 'Keeping safety levels up in a busy environment', 'What questions could I have asked?' and case studies on learning from incidents, with productive discussion following each item. Many ideas and experiences were shared, generating actions for future work by IMCA and leaving delegates with plenty to think about and take back to their work sites and offices.
