Health Issues
IMCA works on a variety of health issues relevant to its members' global operations through a number of stand-alone and joint projects.
Much of this work comes through supporting and contributing to the work of other bodies, including:
- the independent Diving Medical Advisory Committee (DMAC), which comprises diving medical specialists seeking to provide advice about medical and certain safety aspects of commercial diving, for which IMCA provides secretariat and publication distribution services
- contributing to the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (OGP) guide to malaria prevention and management.
- working with regulators and the Norwegian oil industry association (OLF) on long-term monitoring of diver health
IMCA also provides briefing to members on matters such as:
- national medical certification requirements and mutual recognition agreements that exist
- identification of doctors to undertake annual diver medicals, which in turn enabled contractors to group together and jointly recognise doctors after the withdrawal of an international regulator's scheme
