Guidance on the Initial and Refresher Familiarisation of Vessel Crews
|
This document sets out aspects that should be covered in familiarisation training of all personnel when they board a vessel, covering both personnel new to a vessel (induction training) and refresher training for existing personnel.
The first appendix sets out particular requirements for a specialist vessel induction in the following areas:
- Induction briefing
- Emergency evacuation
- Safety and medical organisation
- Accident prevention
- Environmental issues
- Lifting
- Fire prevention/protection/fighting
- Working at heights
- Helicopter operations
- Relevant legislation
- Working together
- Induction tour of vessel
- Documentation
A second appendix contains a sample induction checklist to be completed on joining a vessel both by the employee and their escort in the induction.
Members are particularly encouraged to require this document's use on chartered vessels which do not already have an equivalent familiarisation programme.
