IMCA Diving Division

Diving Division Profile

IMCA promotes safe practice in the offshore diving industry. Its work covers all aspects of diving equipment, operations and personnel related to offshore diving operations.

The decades of cumulative experience of IMCA members operating around the world are brought together in an extensive set of guidance aimed at aiding safe and efficient operations on a world-wide basis. Our diving publications pages contain the full listings, with key documents in the suite described below.

IMCA works with a variety of regulatory and third-party industry organisations to help share its members expertise, contribute to development of appropriate regulations and guidance and further share good practice and safety-related information through the global industry.

The following pages set out details on the Diving Division's work:

Code of practice

The IMCA International Code of Practice for Offshore Diving (IMCA D 014) brings together the key points of the division's guidance, aiming to provide a safe foundation for operations world-wide, particularly in those areas without national regulations. The code has been adopted by companies operating world-wide, with wide reference by clients, implementation by contractors and reference by regulators and other bodies.

An extensive set of more detailed topic-specific documents provides additional guidance on particular aspects of offshore diving operations, as set out in our publications pages.

Diving equipment

A complete set of all necessary equipment, properly maintained, is essential for ensuring the safety of an offshore diving operation. IMCA provides guidance on: the equipment needed; how it should be inspected, tested, maintained and used; and a suite of record/audit documents covering each type of diving system used offshore. Personnel issues

The safety and successful undertaking of offshore diving operations depends on a team of individuals who are fully trained and possess the skills required to undertake each aspect of their safety-critical roles. IMCA publishes a variety of guidance documents and undertakes a number of initiatives to help diving contractors to ensure they can recruit, train and retain the skilled personnel they need.
