The Diving Supervisor's Manual brings together information common to the safety and operations manuals written by the major diving contractors, together with relevant legislation, guidance notes and codes of practice published by various government departments and IMCA. Further detailed information fills in the gaps and in some cases explains various procedures and techniques from first principles.
Many will recall that AODC collaborated with the Underwater Centre to produce the AODC Diving Supervisor's Manual in 1986. That publication was widely used, but has been out of print for a number of years and has been overtaken by technical and regulatory developments. IMCA published this completely new manual in May 2000 to serve the same purpose.
The manual is intended to be of a general nature, so that the greater part of what a diving supervisor needs to know to pass the various supervisor exams is at least mentioned. It does not and cannot provide all the information that a supervisor may require on all subjects and cannot cover the detailed procedures of particular diving contractors, but is nevertheless an extensive and highly useful volume.
The manual is available in both printed (230 pages) form and on a CD, requested by a number of members and supervisors, which provides a compact version which is easier to carry offshore and when travelling.
Diving supervisors in possession of an IMCA/AODC Diving Supervisor qualification can purchase the manual at the member price on receipt of a copy of their certificate and payment.
