The Training & Experience of Key DP Personnel

IMCA's key document for Marine Division competency arrangements represents the recognised and agreed industry standard for the training, competence and experience required of all key DP personnel on dynamically positioned vessels.

Recognised by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the basis for much of the IMCA Competence Assurance & Assessment Scheme in this area, the document sets out criteria for training, competence and experience for a number of key positions on board dynamically positioned vessels. DP Operator Training

The above document provides detailed information on specific DP training courses following the Nautical Institute scheme and/or approved by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate.

The most up-to-date information on approved establishments, on which IMCA members are briefed regularly, can be found on the Nautical Institute's website, from which individual establishments' sites are linked, enabling visitors to find detailed information on the range of courses and specific equipment covered. Safety Training

In June 2000, IMCA produced "Guidance for the initial & refresher familiarisation of vessel crews" (IMCA S&L 003), to set out aspects that should be covered in familiarisation training of all personnel when they board a vessel, covering both personnel new to a vessel (induction training) and refresher training for existing personnel.

IMCA has also now published "Guidance on basic safety training for non-marine personnel on specialist vessels" (IMCA SEL 007), to address the situation IMCA members have faced in a number of parts of the world, where sub-contractor personnel coming onto their vessels may have received no basic safety training.

Please note that the above links to safety training guidance will take you away from the Marine Division area of the website to the SEL core activity.
