Failure Modes of CPP Thrusters

This report represents several months of research into thruster failures following concern expressed by vessel operators over the number of failures they were experiencing. The work only covers controllable pitch (CPP) thrusters because the majority of vessels use these rather than fixed-pitch variable-speed thrusters.

The fundamental problems affecting thruster reliability have been established and recorded in this publication to let vessel operators and thruster manufacturers see the range of failures that have been experienced.
