General Thruster Specification and Bid Information Questionnaire

This publication, updated in May 2001 to include reference to variable speed thrusters and reflect other recent work by IMCA's Marine Division on thrusters, was the product of an earlier joint industry project involving several IMCA members.
The information is aimed at assisting clients in making sound decisions about the design and type of thruster required on a vessel for a particular duty. It is hoped that vessel owners and operators will also use the specification to ensure that the most suitable thruster for the vessel's application can be selected.
The publication discusses the key elements of thruster design in general terms and does not specify rigid designs, materials or manufacturing procedures. Where applicable, information is provided to indicate what options are available and to highlight particular concerns.
The report also includes a bid information questionnaire that can be enclosed with a specification to help clients to obtain all the relevant information.
