Microbiological Contamination of Fuel Oil: IMCA Questionnaire Exercise Results

This report provides a synposis of a survey carried out to identify the extent to which microbiological contamination is experienced in the vessels of IMCA members.

The report provides details on fuel delivery, sampling, tank conditions, fuel storage, microbiological testing and the experiences of chief engineers with regard to contamination in their vessels. The report has four annexes, one of which looks at treatment methods once contamination has occurred. Ways to avoid contamination are also highlighted.
