IMCA and its predecessor, the DP Vessel Owners Association (DPVOA) have established a well-recognised system for performance of annual trials of dynamic positioning systems.

This standard reporting format was produced to enable charterers to quickly assess the results of trials and to provide a concise summary front end to the detailed technical report.

As well as a single page summary, the introduction sets out instructions, personnel requirements, trial location and limitations plus details of useful reference documentation.

The trial conclusions and comments are included, together with recommendations covering the power distribution, engine and machinery systems, DP computers, thrusters, DP references systems, maintenance and personnel issues. The report concludes with a prioritised actions list.
