Safety Seminars
One of IMCA's key objectives is to strive for the highest possible standards with
a balance of risk and cost in relation to health and safety. A key tool
in achieving this is the series of IMCA safety seminars.
These have grown into an annual event, attracting in excess of one hundred delegates
and held at locations around the globe.
These events not only bring members together to learn from those presenting; they
also facilitate sharing of safety-related information with each other and learning
lessons both from successful company safety initiatives and from incidents which
have occurred offshore.
2011 Event
Over 140 delegates gathered at the NH Laguna Palace Hotel, Mestre Venice, Italy,
on 24-25 February 2011 for the ninth IMCA safety seminar. The programme featured
the usual mix of presentations and round table.
The programme featured the usual mix of presentations and round table discussions
on a range of safety related issues, as well as a safety share fair. There were
some interesting round table workshops, including discussions on the hidden cost
of incidents and on the value of safety auditing. Delegates listened to a range
of presentations on integrated safe systems of work, key performance indicators
and managing diving emergencies. As always E for environment and H for health were
not neglected, with presentations on the regulation of greenhouse gases, on deepwater
spill response and on occupational health surveillance.
The SEL committee will take delegates' feedback from this event and use it to plan
the route to delivering IMCA's support to members in the area of safety, environment
and legislation over the coming year.
