IMCA Midsummer Charity Ball 2006
Over 140 members, staff and guests joined together at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels in Aberdeen on 23 June 2006 for the annual IMCA Midsummer Charity Ball.
Guests were welcomed on arrival with drinks and the music of the Atholl Smith Jazz Trio, who continued to entertain throughout the excellent dinner. After dinner, guests heard the IMCA President's speech and then a very amusing after-dinner talk by our guest speaker, Craigie Veitch - a former journalist and sports editor, former Scrabble champion and very popular after-dinner speaker in Scotland and throughout the world.
This year, music for dancing was provided by The Mustang, whose dance selections kept some of the more energetic ballgoers on the dance-floor until after midnight. A game of 'Kings and Queens' together with donations and the Ellon and District Round Table's casino raised a record £2,100 for this year's chosen charity - The Marine Society and Sea Cadets.
The Marine Society, founded in 1756, is the world’s oldest not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the well being of professional seafarers all over the world. It endeavours to provide resources for the education, training and general support of all professional seafarers.
