IMCA PLANS SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT WORKSHOP
Safety, health and environment matters will come under the microscope at IMCA's - The International Marine Contractors Association - January 2002 Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) workshop to be held at Manchester United's Old Trafford Stadium.
"The event is being held to update managerial and offshore operational personnel on recent developments in SHE matters and to enable an exchange of best practice," explains IMCA's Technical Director, Jane Bugler.
"We plan to focus on human factors with presentations on Behavioural Aspects, Safety Culture, Leading Performance Indicators and the Merits and Drawbacks of Safety Awards. However, the programme is by no means writ on that proverbial tablet of stone. In our current newsletter we are asking for suggestions for discussion topics, and inviting members to highlight key issues and themes of interest. We want this event to be highly topical and hope to attract wide participation from IMCA member companies from around the world. We are particularly eager to encourage project managers and superintendents working offshore to join us in Manchester."
The SHE Workshop will cover a day and a half and include an informal dinner to encourage maximum networking and exchange of views - the fee will be nominal. "This is very much an event being held to encourage the exchange of views and maximum interaction," says Jane Bugler. "And, yes, there will be time to see the Manchester United trophies!"
Programme suggestions should be sent to Jane Bugler at Jane.Bugler@imca-int.com or mailed to her at IMCA.
Notes to Editors (common)
- IMCA is an international association with well over 800 members in 60 countries, as at September 2011, representing offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies. IMCA has four technical divisions, covering marine/specialist vessel operations, offshore diving, hydrographic survey and remote systems and ROVs, plus geographic sections for the Asia-Pacific, South America, Europe & Africa, Middle East & India and Central & North America regions. As well as a core focus on safety, the environment, competence and training. IMCA seeks to promote its members' common interests, to resolve industry-wide issues and to provide an authoritative voice for its members.
- IMCA publishes some 200 guidance notes and technical reports. These have been developed over the years and are widely distributed. They are a definition of what IMCA stands for, including widely recognised diving and ROV codes of practice, DP documentation, marine good practice guidance, the Common Marine Inspection Document, safety recommendation, outline training syllabi and the IMCA competence scheme guidance. In addition to the range of printed guidance documents, IMCA also produces safety promotional materials, circulates information notes and safety flashes.
- Judith Patten is here to help you if you want any additional information on IMCA; would like to discuss a feature article; want to organise interviews with key members of the IMCA team, etc.
