IMCA - News Feed http://www.imca-int.com/news News from IMCA - The International Marine Contractors Association From the president - December 2011 At the nineteenth IMCA annual seminar in New Orleans my keynote address was in how I see the future of marine and subsea operations. The future is rosy if the client base is confident enough to provide contractors with regular contracts and continuity. Confidence generates the investment necessary to assist the technological advances that are required in our challenging industry, and a buoyant industry attracts the manpower needed to utilise it. Each individual component is not guaranteed and we can be knocked off course as an industry. http://www.imca-int.com/news/president/1112.html Thu, 15 Dec 2011 00:01 +0000 Key IMCA publications available in Portuguese and Spanish Eight key IMCA publications have been translated into both Latin American Portuguese and Spanish and can be downloaded via the IMCA website, reflecting the increasing internationalisation of the association and the growing number of IMCA members working in southern and central America.

New annual DP trials report example This document replaces IMCA M 139 - Standard report for DP vessels' annual trials and reflects the guidance in IMCA M 190 - Guidance for developing and conducting annual DP trials programmes for DP vessels. which should be consulted for further guidance on completing the annual trials reports. http://www.imca-int.com/divisions/marine/publications/212.html Wed, 12 Oct 2011 00:01 +0000 Marine Division New diving guidance addresses concrete mattress issues This guidance provides useful reference and good practice guide based on historical experience to a wide range of disciplines based both onshore and offshore when dealing with issues associated with concrete mattresses used subsea. This revision covers diver and ROV based concrete mattress handling, deployment, installation, repositioning and decommissioning. Issues covered include design and specification, load-out, mobilisation, over-boarding, deployment, installation, repositioning, decommissioning and recovery. This guidance note includes the use of 'roll-out anti-scour fronded' mattresses plus the essential associated safety and environmental issues. It assumes that the typical mattress installation worksite is supported by vessels equipped with cranes that have operational and calibrated line-out meters and load cells. These guidelines are also available with the reference IMCA R 016. http://www.imca-int.com/divisions/diving/publications/042.html Fri, 30 Sep 2011 00:01 +0000 Diving DivisionRemote Systems & ROV Division Updated oxy-arc cutting guidelines IMCA has revised Guidelines for oxy-arc cutting. This document highlights the explosive hazards inherent in operations using oxy-arc cutting techniques. Known and suspected contributory factors for explosions are identified and discussed. An operating procedure is also set out, designed to minimise the risk of explosive conditions. http://www.imca-int.com/divisions/diving/publications/003.html Fri, 30 Sep 2011 00:01 +0000 Diving Division From the President - September 2011 IMCA members work hard to deliver safe and efficient projects. Much of IMCA's delivery for members is in support of increasing importance - as demonstrated by the cover focus and content of the this aim. One aspect, competence, has previous issue. In addition to the two competence events in Aberdeen and Singapore earlier this year, a one day event is taking place on 8 September 2011 in Houston, USA. http://www.imca-int.com/news/president/1109.html Mon, 12 Sep 2011 00:01 +0000 From the President - June 2011 IMCA is a multi-faceted trade association. It covers a wide membership of all types of companies, all around the world, dealing with all forms of marine construction. I would like to remark on some apparently disparate events and draw together a few separate threads. http://www.imca-int.com/news/president/1106.html Wed, 15 Jun 2011 00:01 +0000 New Marine Construction Contract and Contracting Principles IMCA has published a new, worldwide, standard marine construction contract for any party to use as appropriate. At the same time the contracting principles have been revised. IMCA's Contracting Principles are now issued as IMCA General Contracting Principles Rev. 1, and a new document entitled IMCA Decommissioning Contracting Principles have been published to cover this different phase of the work which has its own requirements. http://www.imca-int.com/documents/contracts/ Thu, 19 May 2011 00:01 +0000 From the President - March 2011 This column appears every issue and allows me to discuss with you, the IMCA readership, recent and current events, as well as looking into the immediate future. This is my first column as your newly elected President and firstly I would like to pay tribute to my predecessor - Johan Rasmussen of Acergy - for his sterling work over the years on the IMCA Council, as VP and his two years as President. He has led the Association through some turbulent times, helping it go from strength to strength. Nevertheless, as I look to the future I see many challenges ahead of us. http://www.imca-int.com/news/president/1103.html Tue, 15 Mar 2011 00:01 +0000 2010 Safety statistics for Contractor members Each year IMCA has produced an annual report of safety statistics (covering fatalities and injuries), supplied by Contractor members. Members and others have remarked on the width, quality, detail and usefulness of these annual statistics. All individual returns will be kept confidential - IMCA will only publish the totals and non-attributable statistics. If you want to take part and require further information, please email Nick Hough nick.hough@imca-int.com for details. http://www.imca-int.com Mon, 07 Feb 2011 00:01 +0000 From the President - December 2010 My two years as IMCA President are coming to an end and I have enjoyed them immensely. This being my last President's letter, I want to reflect on this time and the word 'growth'. http://www.imca-int.com/news/president/1012.html Tue, 14 Dec 2010 00:01 +0000 IMCA subscription fees for 2011 Every year the Overall Management Committee (OMC) reviews the IMCA membership annual subscriptions. The significant growth in membership has produced a sufficiently increased subscription income for some time to allow the subscriptions to remain unchanged since 2003. However, this year, OMC has decided to increase the subscriptions by around 6% across the board. You will see this in your annual invoice for 2011 to be issued shortly. http://www.imca-int.com/join/subscriptions.html Mon, 13 Dec 2010 00:01 +0000 IMCA publishes Safe Travel & Security DVD Wherever you are going, travelling abroad can be exciting, stimulating and interesting. However, in some places there are obvious risks and there are precautions that everyone should take - before leaving, during the journey and while they are at their destination. http://www.imca-int.com/core/sel/publications/014a.html Fri, 29 Oct 2010 00:01 +0000 IMCA publishes guidance on vessel assurance IMCA has published IMCA M 204 - Vessel assurance - which aims to provide a common approach which can be adopted by vessel owners/operators as appropriate to fit in with their own systems and to satisfy their clients. This common approach aims to improve safety and efficiency for all parties. http://www.imca-int.com/divisions/marine/publications/204.html Tue, 07 Sep 2010 00:01 +0000 Marine Division From the President - September 2010 In my last foreword I discussed 'risk', and I want to continue with that theme as it is so important to us all. http://www.imca-int.com/news/president/1009.html Tue, 07 Sep 2010 00:01 +0000 IMCA e-CMID Goes from Strength to Strength User registrations continue to grow on the IMCA e-CMID Database. http://www.imca-int.comhttp://www.imcacmid.com Thu, 01 Jul 2010 00:01 +0000 From the President - May 2010 The recent event in the US Gulf, sadly causing loss of life and severe environmental damage, has shown that the risks inherent in the offshore oil and gas business are all too real. http://www.imca-int.com/news/president/1005.html Mon, 31 May 2010 00:01 +0000 IMCA Publishes SIMOPS Guidance Doing two or more things at the same time can be difficult under any circumstances. The risks associated with simultaneous marine operations (SIMOPS) in support of offshore oil and gas exploration and production, for example, related construction and survey activities, can be great and potentially dangerous. http://www.imca-int.com/divisions/marine/publications/203.html Tue, 11 May 2010 00:01 +0000 From the President - February 2010 "The economic recession is still impacting many parts of members' work. Last year we discussed this at various IMCA events: the annual seminar learnt that Petrobras had decided positively to invest at this time because it was the right time for it, its supply chain and the Brazilian economy; our Europe & Africa section meeting in September discussed 'the role of a trade association in challenging times'; and our North America section joined with consultants Deloitte to host a forum on 'Our Journey to Recovery: The Human Capital Challenge' in November, which discussed the actions of oil majors and contractors during this strained period and the likely difficulties ahead when the industry recovers. In each case IMCA played its role as a facilitator for dialogue which we hope is beneficial for all parties." http://www.imca-int.com/news/president/1002.html Fri, 26 Feb 2010 00:01 +0000 IMCA subscription fees frozen for 2010 Subscription fees for members of IMCA have been frozen yet again, with the continuing growth enabling the association to deliver an expanded work programme without increasing cost to members.
