IMCA Americas Deepwater Section

Safety, Environment & Legislation Sub-Group

As with the global Safety, Environment & Legislation Core Activity, the Americas SEL sub-group aims to cover issues relevant to all members in the region, in terms of improving offshore safety, providing briefing and guidance on environmental issues and monitoring local regulatory developments, providing briefing and lobbying on behalf of members.

The sub-group can also co-ordinate and facilitate initiatives with the divisional sub-groups where there is a common interest and/or where broader input is required. The group's chairman serves as a member of the world-wide SEL committee, helping enhance the global nature of its work.

Work Programme

The sub-group's work programme includes the following:

  • Review of existing and new draft IMCA guidance documents and provision of feedback and recommendations to enhance the international nature of such guidance where appropriate
  • Participation in the annual IMCA global safety statistics exercise, with additional feedback utilising performance indicators relevant to the region, allowing for further benchmarking, enabling progress towards the zero injury goal to be monitored and providing additional information to assist in briefing/ lobbying on behalf of those active in the sector
  • Building a network of safety, health and environment representatives in the Americas, including those representing members in the region and promotion of IMCA's role, current work and achievements to clients, regulators and potential members
