Local Issues
The Asia-Pacific Section has seen phenomenal growth since its establishment in 1999. One of the key drivers has been its quarterly meetings, which have brought together existing members with a variety of governmental and regulatory representatives plus other contractors who often subsequently apply to join the association.
This open approach has demonstrated the benefits of sharing good practice and safety lessons through the forum provided by the section meetings.
Particular areas where members have been able to combine their respective experience and discuss issues being faced include regulatory developments, notably through productive dialogue with the Australian National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority. Growth in Corresponding (oil company) membership has helped to both raise awareness and broaden the use of IMCA's good practice guidance, improving safety and efficiency across the region.
Issues raised at the section meetings have, on a number of occasions, led to further work both locally and through the world-wide committees, with development of a number of IMCA's recent guidance documents having been initiated in the region.
