IMCA Europe & Africa Section

Restructuring of IMCA at the regional level has been completed with the formation of the Europe & Africa Section. Every IMCA member is now covered by a regional section, which enables members in each region to work together on issues particular to their own geographic area and to enhance IMCA's world-wide work through global input.

Representation

Because IMCA's world-wide committees generally meet in Europe at present (and as their membership generally includes a European majority, although this may change through elections in due course), there will not be the sub-groups which deal with local technical issues in the other regions. For the same reasons, neither are there specific regional representatives on the world-wide committees, although the section's chairman serves as a member of IMCA's Overall Management Committee.

Work Programme

As noted above, to avoid duplication, the section does not work separately on issues covered by the world-wide core and technical division committees. However, there are specific issues of importance to the region and the section has developed an extensive work programme appropriate for members in the region. The section oversees a number of pre-existing and new workgroups, as well as combining its meetings with topic-specific seminars to enable wider participation in its work. Meetings

While the Europe & Africa Section holds regular meetings where members are updated on the global work programme, it tends to combine them with one day seminars on topics of particular interest to members in the region or to help progress local work items. Recent examples include seminars on vessel security and decommissioning and renewable energy issues.
