Local Issues: UK Government-Industry Initiatives
The UK has, in recent years, seen a number of initiatives aimed at increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of the UK oil and gas sector, in which IMCA has sought to play an active role on behalf of its members.
Areas of particular significance include:
LOGIC (Leading Oil & Gas Industry Competitiveness) - During LOGIC's establishment (by the industry, for the industry), IMCA was represented on the LOGIC Board and contributed to initital funding costs. Work items of particular importance to IMCA include:
- Satellite Accelerator initiative
- Industry Mutual Hold Harmless (IMHH) deed
- Revision of CRINE standard contracts
LOGIC is now a 'stand-alone' commercial venture in which IMCA has no commercial interest. However, the Associaiton continues to be represented on the standard contracts committee and to 'steer' the IMHH initiative.
PILOT - successor to the government-industry task force, which includes representation from member contractors who provide direct feedback to IMCA and are able to raise issues of relevance to IMCA members.
- Supply Chain Code of Practice - updating an earlier version produced by the Progressing Partnership Work Group, 2006 saw the update of the supply chain code of practice, available from the PILOT website. IMCA welcomes members' feedback on use and take-up of the code - please contact Hugh Williams, IMCA's Chief Executive, with your feedback.
- Industry Leadership Team (ILT) - this group of 'industry leaders' includes representatives from the marine contracting sector who are also closely involved in IMCA's work
- Supply Chain Champions - a route via which IMCA can raise matters of a sensitive nature on behalf of its members, who can thereby remain anonymous while seeking resolution of specific commercial issues
