History

IMCA was formed in 1995 through the merger of two existing associations:

  • AODC (originally the Association of Offshore Diving Contractors, later renamed the the International Association of Underwater Engineering Contractors), formed in 1972 to address diver safety and safe working practices in the emerging offshore oil and gas industry
  • DPVOA (the Dynamically Positioned Vessel Owners Association), formed in 1990 to address safe working practices, given the sophisticated dynamically positioned vessels in the oil and gas industry.
