IMCA’s international competence framework provides a means by which the marine contracting industry can demonstrate the competence of its personnel in the safety-critical positions and other key positions they fulfil.
Focusing on workplace assessment, where both skills and behaviour are considered, the framework can be used by members to establish or enhance their own in-house schemes. Assessment templates are based on recognised industry criteria and guidance has been produced for over 50 positions to date:
The IMCA freelance competence assessment e-portfolios have been designed so that freelance individuals can take ownership of their own portfolio, adding evidence and completing competencies as they move from project to project or from one company to another. The e-portfolio, initially available for offshore survey and ROV roles, is intended to be a dynamic document used to record task competence pertinent to the role.
The previous competence assessment material remains available, particularly for the diving, marine and ROV roles.
Assessors and Verifiers
IMCA has produced guidance on training of assessors and verifiers involved in the competence assurance and assessment process:
IMCA has produced a range of materials to help promote competence assurance and assessment in the workplace, including a video and poster.
