CEO Update

Welcome to the March edition of Making Waves. You may have heard the news that after 46 years working in our industry, I will be retiring this year. As a result, I will be standing down from my role in IMCA once my successor has been secured.

Rest assured that I will continue to work tirelessly to support IMCA and our members until the next CEO is firmly in place.

We have been working hard in the last couple of months promoting our revised contracting principles for the offshore renewables industry. This has been a major piece of work by our Legal, Contracts, Insurance, and Compliance Committee (LCIC) and our job now is to promote our views to the wider industry. I spoke at the Offshore Wind Journal Conference in London a few weeks ago, where I shared the idea of the industry coming together to create a Leading Offshore Wind Industry Competitiveness programme (LOWIC) to ensure the development of a sustainable industry and sustainable supply chain.

Those who have worked in the industry for a while will remember a similar approach which the Oil & Gas industry took in the 1990s with the CRINE programme, which led to a suite of standard contracts being produced under the LOGIC banner. The wind industry certainly needs standard contracts, and we are exploring options with various industry stakeholders to achieve this. But the industry also needs a new collaborative way of working, with developers and contractors creating project solutions together in order to take out unnecessary costs, share project risks, and make the industry more efficient. Hence the LOWIC initiative.

We will maintain our activities in this space throughout 2023 and continue to push for a successful and sustainable offshore wind energy industry. We will of course keep you informed of progress.

Best regards,

Allen Leatt
