Requirements for IMCA approval of Class-A ROV simulators
Developed to support the latest technology in ROV pilot training, IMCA offers approval for ROV Simulator Manufacturers to demonstrate their system design meets IMCA Class-A standards.
A simulator can be defined as the creation of certain conditions by means of a model, to simulate conditions within the appropriate sphere of operations. IMCA distinguishes between different levels of simulators including defining criteria for two classes of ROV simulators. The requirements of these classes are defined in IMCA guidance document IMCA C014 - Guidance on the use of simulators.
A Class-A ROV simulator is required when seeking approval of ROV introductory training courses (R002 and R025) conducted in this virtual environment. IMCA approval of simulators will provide members applying for training approval under this scheme to have confidence that the design has been approved by IMCA as meeting the Class-A criteria.
The criteria for obtaining IMCA approval of simulators systems is defined in G014 Interim scheme for IMCA approval of simulator systems used for work and skills with detail on the approval of Class-A ROV Simulators defined in R028 Requirements for IMCA approval of Class A ROV simulators.
Providers and simulator models that have been approved as meeting the criteria for Class-A are listed below.
