The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) will be actively participating in an eCMID online festival of knowledge aimed at sharing the latest updates with Accredited Vessel Inspectors (AVIs).
The IMCA eCMID system provides the marine and offshore industry with standardised formats for vessel inspection and offers a safety management system (SMS) ‘health check’. Using eCMID can help improve the quality and consistency of inspections, as well as reducing the frequency of inspections on individual vessels through the adoption of a commonly recognised inspection process.
The event taking place on May 20 is hosted by IIMS and is scheduled to run for twelve hours from 0600hrs BST.
- Graeme Reid, IMCA Technical Adviser – Marine, will be presenting the latest Findings and Analysis.
- Adam Hugo, IMCA IT Services & Solutions Specialist, will be providing an update and live demonstration of the eCMID Progressive Web App
- Stephen Birt, of TechnipFMC and Chairman of IMCA’s eCMID committee, will be providing an update on the work of the eCMID committee.
IIMS Marine Surveying Academy operates the AVI Scheme on behalf of IMCA.
About the event
The IMCA eCMID system provides the marine and offshore industry with standardised formats for vessel inspection. It offers a safety management system (SMS) ‘health check’ and can help improve the quality and consistency of inspections, as well as reducing the frequency of inspections on individual vessels through the adoption of a commonly recognised inspection process.
IMCA has published Guidance on the IMCA eCMID system which sets out details on the system’s purpose, inspection format, process and policy-related issues.
The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) is an independent, non-political organisation promoting the professionalism, recognition and training of marine surveyors worldwide. IIMS is the accrediting body that provides certification for eCMID Vessel Inspectors.
The IIMS defines marine surveying as: “The service provided to maritime and transport organisations in general and the production of guidance reports for all other bodies connected with maritime operations or maritime trade”.
The IIMS is the leading professional body for marine surveyors and has a worldwide membership of around 1,000 individuals in over 90 countries. It is the largest organisation of its kind and seeks to represent its industry to government and non governmental organisations such as the International Marine Organisation (IMO), Coastguards, insurance companies and ship owners.
The IIMS is led by a President, supported by a Vice President and a Management Board. This structure is supported by a Chief Executive Officer and head office team based at Portchester in the UK. In addition there are overseas representatives in 17 regions worldwide.
