IMCA features in Top Women in Shipping for first time

Margaret Fitzgerald, Head of Marine Policy & Regulatory Affairs at IMCA was ranked joint 26th in All About shipping’s Top Women listing 2020. 1,580 women from all sectors of the entire shipping spectrum entered with 189 sharing the top 100 places.
About Margaret
Margaret joined IMCA in 2018 and is IMCA’s lead on both the newly branded Legal, Contracts, Insurance & Compliance Committee and the Marine Policy & Regulatory Affairs Committee. She leads IMCA’s activities at the IMO and has been actively representing members during the COVID-19 pandemic through her involvement with a range of industry groups in support of seafarers rights and through her IMO member state network has successfully helped members’ crew be repatriated or mobilised.
Margaret is a qualified maritime lawyer and chemical scientist who holds Chartered status with the Royal Society of Chemistry (CChem) and Chartered status with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
Margaret has over 20 years’ experience in shipping. She previously worked for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretariat, leading on the development of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code and related regulations on the carriage of hazardous chemicals and noxious and polluting substances, including the HNS Convention.
Her experience also includes working for a member of the International Association of Classification Societies as a senior safety and environmental specialist, and as an expert adviser on several high-profile maritime incidents.
