IMCA publications available in Portuguese and Spanish

Eight key publications from the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) have been translated into both Latin American Portuguese and Spanish and are now available for downloading on the IMCA website at www.imca-int.com

“The availability of these versions for the Southern and Central American regions reflects the increasing internationalisation of the association and the growing number of IMCA members working in those waters, and employing specialists from these regions,” explains Hugh Williams, Chief Executive of IMCA, who has just returned from the quarterly section meeting in Rio de Janeiro, which included a presentation on training, competence and personnel shortages – a topic that dominates concerns about the upcoming boom of work in the region.

“With new entrants into the industry in the region, and our 2012 Safety Seminar being held in Rio de Janeiro on 21 March, it is imperative that everything is done across all our core and technical divisions to ensure that those with Latin American Portuguese and Latin American Spanish as their first language are well catered for, and can take full advantage of our guidance documents. Contractors working in these regions can also use the documents to submit to their clients as part of the packages required where use of the local language is often prescribed. More will follow over the coming months and years.”

The first eight publications to be translated are: Guidelines for the use of multibeam echosounders for offshore surveys (IMCA S 003); Guidelines for lifting operations (IMCA SEL 019/M 187); The training and experience of key DP personnel (IMCA M 117); Guidance on the investigation and reporting of incidents (IMCA SEL 016); FMEA management guide (IMCA M 178); Guidelines for the design and operation of dynamically positioned vessels (IMCA M 103); Guidance on travel security (IMCA SEL 014); and IMCA International Code of Practice for Offshore Diving (IMCA D 014).

All can be downloaded free of charge from www.imca-int.com as can a large number of IMCA’s publications in English.”This is to provide better availability and access to these important documents,” explains Hugh Williams.”We want to see them widely available and used by all in the industry, including non-members, for the good and safety of all involved in marine contracting. We also encourage companies and other organisations to provide links to our documents from their websites, intranets and PDF documents making access much easier.”
