CEO Update – January/February 2022
Welcome everyone to the first issue of Making Waves for 2022. We started off the year on a positive note with the launch of the Environmental Sustainability Committee’s online Self-Assessment Tool which will enable Members to track their progress against IMCA’s recommended code of practice on environmental sustainability. As I have said before, environmental sustainability is fast becoming a business imperative, and this tool is another step for our Members on the journey towards net zero.
IMO finalises the text of the new Industrial Personnel (IP) Code
IMCA recently participated the first IMO meeting of 2022 – the 8th session of the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC 8) considered the finalisation of the Mandatory instrument and/or provisions addressing safety standards.
IMO to consider the proposed revised text for the IMO Diving Code
IMCA will field a delegation of diving experts at the upcoming IMO Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE 8) to provide technical support during IMO’s consideration of the revision of the Code of Safety for Diving Systems and the Guidelines and Specifications for Hyperbaric Evacuation Systems which has been developed by correspondence, led by the Government of the Bahamas, and set out in document SSE8/14.
IMCA Successfully Retains ISO 9001 and 27001 Certification
Quality improvement is part of IMCA’s strategy, for the third year in a row there were zero findings in this re-certification audit – a great achievement.
IMCA finalises Guidelines for Walk to Work (W2W) Operations
The guidelines were originally produced in October 2020 to help standardise the way in which vessels give personnel safe access to offshore structures, both in the wind and oil & gas industries.
IMCA remembers Pete Somner
Pete Somner, who died suddenly and prematurely on 16 December 2021, had worked in the energy industry for over 40 years, and his natural ability to adapt allowed him to move effortlessly between disciplines – now diving, then marine, but also project management, quality, and safety. For a long time Pete was a leading member of IMCA’s Marine Committee, including a spell as Chair, and over the years has been very influential in the growth and development of IMCA.
