As part of IMCA’s Europe and Africa regional activities in Ghana last month, the IMCA team had the privilege of visiting the International School of Accra. We were warmly welcomed by Principal Benjamin Yeboah and his team, Nana Ama Sarpong and Omobolanle Audu
During the visit, we shared presentations and held open discussions with headteachers and students on offshore careers, the skills that will shape the future of our industry, and the vital role young people play in driving progress. The students’ curiosity was inspiring – they asked thoughtful, challenging questions that reflected both their eagerness to understand the offshore sector and their desire to contribute to it.
A highlight of the day was the launch of a new Marine Club, to be led by the students themselves. This exciting initiative will create a space for students to explore marine ecosystems, deepen their understanding of sustainability, and discover practical ways to engage with the offshore and marine industries.
The school visit is part of a broader effort to raise awareness of offshore careers and inspire the next generation by highlighting the diverse opportunities available within our sector. IMCA, together with our members in Ghana and our partners, is committed to supporting the school as this program develops, providing mentorship, knowledge, and networks to help the club flourish. Beyond learning, the aim is to empower students to make a meaningful contribution to environmental stewardship in their community and beyond.
This collaboration between education, industry, and youth engagement marks a fantastic step forward for the region. We congratulate the students, teachers, and supporters behind the launch of the Marine Club and look forward to seeing its impact in the months ahead.

The visit capped a successful trip to Ghana, which also saw IMCA Diving Manager Bill Chilton and Technical Adviser Mary Ntamark meet with the Ghanian Petroleum Commission to discuss how IMCA could support Ghana’s growing offshore sector, and a well-attended Regional Meeting hosted by IMCA Member BSM Maritime Training Centre, at which IMCA met with Members from Ghana and across the African continent.
