Working Together: Speakers announced for Marine Technical Day at IMCA’s Annual Seminar in The Hague

The two-day International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) Annual Seminar, with the title ‘Working Together: Getting back to business – oil companies and contractors finding new ways of working’ on the 28 and 29 November, will include a day-long Marine Technical Session. The event will be held at the World Forum, The Hague, in The Netherlands.
On the first day, speakers at IMCA’s Annual Seminar will focus on the strategies being developed by contractors in the new industrial landscape and on new ways of working. On the second day, two technical sessions will run alongside each other – one dedicated to Marine and the other to Diving.
Captain Andy Goldsmith, IMCA’s Technical Adviser – Marine, said: “We have a highly relevant programme in place for the Marine Technical Session. Our Seminars play an important role in determining IMCA’s work programme and we intend to use the opportunity to explore topical industry issues.”
The Marine Technical Session, chaired and moderated by Edwin Lampert of Riviera Marine, will cover three areas: Remote DP trials, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and energy efficiency initiatives by the offshore sector.
Speakers and delegates will debate the positives and negatives of Remote DP trials. The panel discussion will feature Peter Solvang of DP and Marine Assurance, Joe Farrell-Dillon of Global Maritime, Martin Jacobsen of Maersk Supply Service, and Pawel Noskowicz of TechnipFMC.
Turning to CPD, Prof John Chudley of IMarEST will differentiate between training and CPD, and Steve Benzie of Subsea 7 and Chairman of IMCA’s Competence & Training Committee will look at CPD in action. A panel discussion will follow, with delegate participation, on how to encourage seafarers to participate in CPD.
The final session of the day will look at energy efficiency initiatives by the offshore sector. Peter McCombie, Chair of IMCA’s Marine Policy & Regulatory Affairs Committee, will introduce the session. There will be presentations on the development of port infrastructure to support offshore efficiency initiatives; and member initiatives such as Louis Dreyfus Armateurs’ new DP vessel Wind of Change, Heerema Marine Contractors’ new dual fuel vessel Sleipnir and Saipem’s energy efficiency programme.
The session will culminate in a panel discussion on ‘Managing the 2020 sulphur cap and future energy efficiency challenges’.
