Contracting Principles for Offshore Wind at IPF 2023

Published on 24 March 2023

Our campaign for sustainable contracting principles around offshore wind installation is heading to IPF 2023 in Baltimore, USA with IMCA taking part in an industry panel discussion on the topic of allocation of risk in offshore wind contracting.

IPF 2023 is the 10th anniversary of the International Offshore Wind Partnering Forum, organised by the Business Network for Offshore Wind. The event, which is the premier offshore wind energy conference in the Americas, welcomes more than 4,000 delegates across three days with global leaders and businesses in the supply chain discussing the latest technical and policy developments in this space.

Iain Grainger, Head of Energy Transition, will be attending on behalf of IMCA and will participate in a panel discussion on the allocation of risk in offshore wind contracts, hosted by American law firm, Jones Walker LLP, on Thursday 29 March 2023 at 2.30pm in Room 347.

Cindy Muller, Partner at Jones Walker LLP, will be hosting and moderating the session titled Three Sheets to the Wind which is based on an article she co-wrote highlighting the unique challenges contractors face in offshore wind construction, the push for unlimited liability in offshore wind construction contracts, and potential strategies for contractual risk-sharing and incentives.

Alongside a panel of industry experts including Paul Doherty (Venterra Group), Maria Eidesvik (Seaway 7), and Ted Muhlfelder (Equinor), Iain will have the opportunity to highlight the compounding risks which are often disproportionately allocated to contractors. He will also describe how IMCA are promoting a new industry initiative, LOWIC (“Leading Offshore Wind Industry Competitiveness” programme) to improve the competitiveness of Offshore Wind.

Iain Grainger said: “I’m delighted to be representing IMCA on an industry panel exploring a crucial topic which is fundamental to aspirations for offshore wind around the globe. I’ll be emphasising a message of increased collaboration between developers and the supply chain for a more sustainable allocation of risk.”

As well as Iain Grainger, Bruce Gresham (Director of Client Engagement – North America) and Dustin Varnell (Master Mariner) will be attending IPF 2023. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us today if you’d like to arrange a meeting.
