Chief Executive

Allen is a civil engineer by professional training and has 40 years of experience with leading contractors in the offshore construction industry in technical, managerial and executive roles.

He has wide experience in marine contracting and played a senior role in the development of the integrated subsea construction business model with the formation of Coflexip Stena Offshore, which subsequently became Technip. He was the CEO of Perry Tritech based in the USA and latterly Executive VP of Technip’s SURF Product Line based in France. In 2003 he joined Stolt Offshore in 2003 in London (later renamed Acergy) as Chief Technology Officer within the executive management team, with a broad portfolio covering engineering, R&D, SCM, and an extensive fleet renewal programme. In 2011 Acergy merged with Subsea 7 and he took on the role of Senior VP for Engineering and Project Management. He joined IMCA as CEO in October 2015.

Allen is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a first class engineer member of the Smeatonian Society, and a chartered engineer in the UK. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, a Master’s in Business Administration, and a h.c. Doctorate of Science degree.

TechnipFMC

David Cannell is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer.  He has worked at TechnipFMC for over 25 years focused on R&D activities related to pipelay and subsea installation.  Including diving and ROV activities.  More recently his focus has been on ropes and subsea lifting, although he is now moving more into governance and interaction role.

This is the 10^th IMCA Lifting and Rigging technical forum David has been involved with – all of which that he has helped organise and chaired.  David is still amazed how much we learn through each seminar and how many cross-company discussions are created, which ultimately have led to new technical developments and improved knowledge sharing across the industry.

Marine & Quality Manager

Mark joined the IMCA secretariat in February 2012 from Charles Taylor Consulting, where he worked as a senior surveyor and divisional director in the safety and loss prevention department. His work involved carrying out ship condition surveys prior to and during entry into P&I insurance cover, writing various technical and safety articles for the safety and loss department publications.

Mark worked for over 25 years as a marine engineer on bulk carriers and diving support vessels, ultimately sailing to the rank of chief engineer. He has worked as an engineer superintendent for a product tanker company which involved dry dockings, general repairs and the daily running of the fleet and also as a consultant marine engineer, specialising in FMEAs and retro-fit specifications.

Mark leads IMCA’s Marine Technical Division and our integrated quality management system with ISO Certification in both 27001 and 9001.

Maro Hartmann has been working for Lloyds Register (LR) for almost 25 years.

Engineering Director, Seaway 7

Having worked in the offshore industry for more than 20 years  Arnoud has experienced the transition from oil & gas to renewable wind projects. Since 2016 he has been Engineering Director at Seaway 7. In this role I am working with my team to effectively respond to the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry resulting in safe and smart installation solutions for today’s and tomorrow’s wind turbine generator foundations. Arnoud holds an MSc degree in civil engineering from Technical University Delft.

Jack Spaan is the Expert Heavy Lift within the Boskalis Offshore Heavy Lifting Business Unit.

He is responsible for the development of safe and efficient installation procedures for tenders and project preparation.

Jack has over 30 year experience in Offshore Energy Transport, Installation and Decommissioning projects, in various engineering and management roles and within various companies.

Heerema Marine Contractors

Rolf studied Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Twente and after a short stint at Tebodin joined Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) almost 12 years ago.

At HMC Rolf has performed a large variety of projects, starting off at the (then brand new) decom department mainly working on the Ekofick job. From a year at the tender department before moving to Kuala Lumpur for 3 years to set up a local HMC office there and run the Malikai TLP installation.

Rolf returned to Leiden about 5 years ago and since then has been working at the wind department. Including tenders and the first bit of the Vineyard wind project. Followed by the DOT project where they did our first floating WTG installation.  Now working on the Arcadis project where they are planning to install 27 Vestas V1745’s with the Thialf in the Baltic at the end of 2022.

Peter is a Master Mariner and has been Head of Global Lifting at Siemens Gamesa for the last 2.5 years – in this role he is responsible for all Construction and Service Offshore lifts.

His “onshore” career starts with STRABAG company. The concept we have developed at the time was mainly the installation of fully erected and tested turbines on a Gravity based foundations up to 1200Mt. Therefore a special purpose vessel was designed but never comes to reality.

Peter worked for GL Noble Denton / DNVGL in Marine operations.

He has been involved in the developing guideline guidelines – mainly as PM and surveyor on  Offshore installations (Marine Warranty and Certification).

He spent most of his merchant shipping career on Heavy Lift Vessels.

Alberto has worked in the offshore market since 2006 in Remazel Engineering.

Alberto deals with the design and manufacture of complex systems for the offshore environment – in particular for Wind & Floating Wind, Subsea & Research Heavy Lifting and Oil & Gas.

Works within a multifunctional Engineering Team focused on providing innovative solutions such as Mooring Systems for Floating Wind Turbines, Lifting and Handling Systems for Wind Turbine and its Foundation installation, Winches, and other customised solution.

Remazel Engineering DNA together with the Customer-oriented culture endorsed by all the organisation led our Company team-up with all the majors Players of the Energy sector.

Managing Director, Seaqualize

Gjalt Lindeboom is the Managing Director of Seaqualize, a start-up offshore lifting tool developer and rental company, based on its award winning Balanced Heave Compensation Technology.
Since 2017, Seaqualize developed Balanced Walk-2-Work gangway solutions and, inline Active Heave Compensation tooling tested and tried with major European offshore contractors and service providers

Gjalt has a System & Controls Master Degree from the Technical University Delft, and worked previously with Booz & Company in the wider Energy sector.

Researcher, Delft University of Technology

Peter Meijers is a post-doctoral researcher in the Dynamics of Solids and Structures group at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of Delft University of Technology. He obtained his PhD from the same university with a thesis about non-contact measurement techniques for monopile installations. Currently, his research is focused on non-contact methods for motion compensation of suspended loads on floating installation vessels.

I am currently working as an equipment manager for Van Oord within the business unit offshore wind. I am responsible for crewing, maintenance and compliance to applicable rules and regulations for all Van Oord owned vessels within the offshore wind fleet. Currently the fleet consists of 9 units including their project equipment and project specific modifications. I have been working with Van Oord for the last 14 years and developed a strong focus on how to maintain complex assets technically while being very aware of the associated costs. Managing the several operational teams on board and onshore has become a part something that I really enjoy.
