Exemplary toolbox talks

An excellent example was seen of a toolbox talk (TBT) being done very well. The TBT occurred on the bridge just before the vessel entered the 500m zone. The Chief Officer led the talk, presented the STOP card, and reinforced the company policy for Stop Work Authority. There was noticeable engagement (rather than bored-looking team members) from crew, which reflected a strong safety culture.

Equipment ready for drills and emergencies

A very high standard of life-saving equipment maintenance was observed on deck. The crew demonstrated a robust and well-organized inspection and maintenance process. Work equipment was kept safe for use, maintained in a safe condition, and periodically inspected to ensure it remained safe for use.

Elsewhere, a crew’s advance preparation of protective fire-fighting clothing and boots showed strong readiness, and reflected effective training and skills gained. Regular drills and proper crew training are essential to ensure preparedness, build confidence, and enable effective response in emergency situations.
