IMCA launches new Membership Committee to strengthen Members’ voice and engagement

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is pleased to announce the formation of a new Membership Committee, marking an important step in strengthening how Members’ voices are represented and heard across the Association.

This new committee will report to IMCA’s Board alongside the existing Operations and People Committees, creating a more structured and responsive framework for engagement, governance, and collaboration across the global membership.

A stronger voice for Members

The Membership Committee will play a central role in ensuring that Member views are clearly captured, represented, and acted upon. It will also act as a key channel for communication back to members, helping to build stronger connections across regions and sectors.

Working closely with the Secretariat, the Committee will:

  • Help shape membership guidance, handbooks, and governance frameworks
  • Oversee membership structure and recommend fee changes to the Board,
  • Review and engage with membership surveys and feedback,
  • Ensure Member concerns are appropriately addressed,
  • Strengthen communication, collaboration, and consistency across regions

In doing so, the Committee will help ensure that IMCA continues to evolve in line with Member needs, while maintaining high standards of transparency and accountability.

The Membership Committee will be one of three standing committees providing direct input to the IMCA Board. While the Membership Committee will be dedicated to engagement, representation and member experience, the Operations Committee will focus on the full range of IMCA’s technical outputs, and the People Committee, launched by IMCA last year, will oversee IMCA’s forthcoming People and Skills strategy, including competence and training, IMCA’s new Next Generation Network, and other workforce initiatives.

Together, these committees will provide balanced oversight across IMCA’s key strategic priorities.

Committee structure and participation

The Membership Committee will be formally established from May 2026 and will include:

  • A Chair (supported by a Board sponsor),
  • Five standing members representing IMCA’s global regions (not currently serving on other committees),
  • One early-career professional from IMCA’s Next Generation Network, and
  • The Chairs of each Regional Committee.

The Committee will meet up to four times per year, typically ahead of Board meetings, ensuring timely input on key decisions and issues.

Opportunities to get involved

IMCA Members will have the opportunity to play a direct role in shaping the future of the Association. Members from contractor, supplier, and training organisations are encouraged to apply to join the Membership Committee, with a strong emphasis on regional representation and the inclusion of early-career professionals.

Commenting on the launch, Jamie Chestnutt, IMCA Chief Operating Officer, said: “The creation of the Membership Committee is a vital step in strengthening how we listen to and represent our Members. It will give Members a clearer role in shaping IMCA’s direction, while helping ensure that all Members, wherever they are based and at every stage of their careers, can have their voice heard.

“Members’ involvement will be key to making this Committee a success, so I’m delighted today to invite Members to apply to join up, and help ensure that our Association remains responsive, inclusive, and representative of the global marine contracting community.”

Further details on how to apply will be shared in the coming weeks.
