IMCA helps its members ensure and demonstrate the competence of their personnel by identifying appropriate certification for relevant positions.

The competence assurance and assessment guidance sets out recognised third-party certification. For example, IMCA works with the Nautical Institute and recognises its scheme for the certification of dynamic positioning (DP) operators.

IMCA’s direct role in certification is restricted to three diving positions: air and bell diving supervisors and life support technicians.

The IMCA diver medic scheme recognises training establishments, but IMCA does not issue certificates to individuals.

IMCA’s DP practitioner accreditation scheme sets a recognised level of knowledge and experience for DP Trials & Assurance Practitioners and Company DP Authorities.

No other IMCA certification of individuals is currently provided.
