Summary

This document is an IMCA Code of Practice. That is:

A document produced by the Association, the uniform application of which is recognised as essential for the safe and efficient conduct of marine contracting projects. IMCA expects the highest level of compliance with this category of document from its Members.

The Code of Practice aims to define minimum requirements for safely laying offshore submarine power cables within the renewable energy industry. This concerns the laying spread, the vessel on which the laying spread is installed, the interface between the vessel and the laying spread, and the safest methodology for overboarding, trenching and cable pulling.

In this context, the vessel is a barge or other type of floating vessel that has the laying spread installed on board. Laying spread is the combined set of systems, including, for example, cable lay operations centre, Linear Cable Engine (LCE), main cable turntable, cable drums/tensioners, clamps, supports and rollers, overboarding chute, etc.

In this context, permanent and temporary (for example, hired) equipment is treated equally.
