The update comes following the introduction of new rules by the Nautical Institute which require Dynamic Positioning Operators to demonstrate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) throughout their careers. IMCA panel explores sustainable contracts at Global Offshore Wind

IMCA is hosting a panel on sustainable contracting at Global Offshore Wind in London with guests from BP, GE Renewable Energy, and DEME Offshore, on Thursday 15 June at 1.15pm. The panel discussion, which will be compered by IMCA CEO Iain Grainger, will take place on day two of the UK’s largest dedicated offshore wind event. Joining him on stage will be Hugo Bouvy (Deme Offshore), Richard Haydock (BP), and Richard Huxley (GE Renewable Energy). Technical concerns in eCMID vessel inspection analysis

New in-depth analysis on IMCA’s industry vessel inspection programmes, eCMID (Common Marine Inspection Document) and eMISW (Common Marine Inspection Document for Small Workboats), reveals ongoing concerns around technical inspections, the controlled entry into confined spaces, cyber security, as well as defects to life-saving appliances. IMCA eCMID System Annual Report 2022/23 (M 262) analysed the 1,539 reports on vessel inspections undertaken and uploaded to the eCMID database between April 2022 and April 2023, finding common themes and areas of particular focus. IMCA has published new guidance on lost bell emergencies. IMCA D 077 – Guidance on prevention and mitigation of lost bell emergencies draw together the Association’s key advice on the subject into a single up-to-date guidance document. A potential significant risk when using closed diving bells is that the diving bell and its divers cannot be recovered, either because the main lift wire, secondary lift wire(s) and main umbilical are severed, or because the bell is trapped. IMCA has joined The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping as a Mission Ambassador. The World’s 100,000 commercial vessels consume around 300 million tons of fuel every year making shipping accountable for around 3% of global carbon emissions. The not-for-profit, independent research and development organisation exists to accelerate the sustainable transition towards a Net Zero future for the maritime industry through collaboration, applied research, and regulatory reform. IMCA thought leadership recognised by UK Government

IMCA’s campaign on sustainable contracting in offshore wind has been recognised by the UK’s first Offshore Wind Champion, and previous co-chair of the Offshore Wind Acceleration Taskforce (May 22 to March 23), Tim Pick. Tim Pick was commissioned by the UK Government to explore the challenges for offshore wind and published his independent report, Seizing Our Opportunities, at the beginning of April. It highlighted that contracting terms in oil and gas are generally more commercially balanced than in offshore wind, noting that: “IMCA’s Renewables Contracting Principles is a helpful piece of thought leadership on this topic.” One of the recommendations

Iain Grainger announced as new CEO of IMCA

Following an extensive executive search process overseen by its Board of Directors, IMCA announces that Iain Grainger will succeed Allen Leatt as CEO when he retires at the end of May 2023. Iain has over three decades of experience in offshore marine construction, with his early career at Brown & Root where he was engaged in the engineering and project management of major offshore projects. He then moved into commercial, strategy, and regional leadership roles with tier-one contractors, including Acergy, Subsea 7, and McDermott International. Iain was previously an IMCA Board Member.   Fugro’s remotely operated vehicle (ROV) introductory training course has received IMCA approval.   Allen Leatt, IMCA CEO, attended the opening ceremony for Fugro’s ROV Training Centre of Excellence, part of the Fugro Academy Training Centre in Plymouth, UK, on Friday 21 April 2023. He experienced first-hand how Fugro’s comprehensive training programme is designed to provide participants with a strong foundation in the ROV industry.   Meeting IMCA requirements, all new trainees must have a suitable educational background and a minimum of three years’ work experience in a relevant field before joining the course. IMCA has launched a new industry awareness campaign following the introduction of new rules by the Nautical Institute (NI) which require Dynamic Positioning (DP) Operators to demonstrate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) throughout their careers. New Technical Director for IMCA, Jim Cullen

IMCA is pleased to welcome Jim Cullen as its new Technical Director. Jim has around 30 years’ experience in the marine contracting industry as an engineer, project manager, and project director and HSEQ director. This included working internationally on projects in the UK, South Korea, Canada, Azerbaijan, and Angola. He joined the Brown & Root graduate engineer development scheme in 1990, advancing through the organisation and working on onshore and offshore projects. Thirteenth unit launched for Diving Supervisor CPD App

IMCA has launched a thirteenth unit for its well-respected Diving Supervisor CPD App. The App, which initially launched in 2020, is aimed at facilitating Continuing Professional Development (CPD) which became mandatory for certified IMCA Diving Supervisors in January 2021. Designed to enable supervisors to easily demonstrate that appropriate CPD has been completed, it is available on both Apple and Android phones and tablet devices.
