Publication of DP Station Keeping Stats sees IMCA urge for more reporting and discussion

Two recent publications from the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) make useful discussion tools for key dynamic positioning (DP) personnel. IMCA M 258 ‘Dynamic Positioning Station Keeping Review – Incidents and Events Reported for 2021’ assesses events reported during last year; and the first ‘DP Event Bulletin’ for 2022 looks in detail at three anonymised DP case studies, the importance of being soliton-aware; and provides a template for DP emergency drill scenarios. Two members of the International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) Marine Technical Adviser team will be speaking at the European Dynamic Positioning (DP) Conference in London on 16 November. IMCA and NI expand DPO App to Key DP Personnel

The Nautical Institute (NI) and the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) continue to build on their Dynamic Positioning continuing professional development (CPD) app with the launch of a second module.  In response to industry demand in recent months, the scheme has now been expanded to include all key DP personnel.  The scheme, originally aimed at supporting Dynamic Positioning Operators, is designed to help all key DP personnel maintain their technical knowledge of the latest industry guidance and operational best practice. IMCA launches new online facility for instant verification of certificates for safety-critical positions in the offshore industry.

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has launched a new online facility as part of the Association’s digital transformation programme which will enable members to access verification services 24 hours a day. It will cover all five certificate types currently issued; Air Diving Supervisor, Bell Diving Supervisor, Life Support Technician, DP Company Authority and DP Trials & Assurance Practitioner. New initiatives such as Accredited Diving System Inspectors will also benefit from the service. The application process for the International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) DP Practitioner Accreditation Scheme opens today (1 May 2019). The launch sees additional support documentation added to the IMCA website and the first dates announced for examinations with further dates to follow. IMCA publishes 2015 DP station keeping events and incidents report

The predominant main cause for dynamic positioning (DP) station keeping events and incidents for 2015 was thruster/propulsion, according to the recently published International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) ‘Dynamic Positioning Station Keeping Review: Incidents and events reported for 2015’ (M 233). This repeats the 2012, 2013 and 2014 findings. The second cause was ‘computer’ with ‘environment’ in third position, and ‘human factor’ and ‘power’ in joint fourth. For 2015 a total of 80 DP station keeping reports from 59 vessels were received from IMCA members, and others, operating DP vessels, giving an average of 1.36 reports per vessel. All have been

Seventy one accounts of incidents that took place in 2014 on 54 vessels were submitted for the annual ‘ Dynamic positioning station keeping incidents: Incidents for 2014’ (M 231) report produced by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA).
